Young Henrys continue to serve the people with the announcement of their one-day festival and a celebration of the inner west – Small World, featuring some of Sydney’s most exciting local bands, restaurateurs and some of Young Henry’s own crafted surprises.

Closing down Jabez Street in Marrickville on September 20, Young Henry’s have curated a food and music experience that will delight all of the senses and truly highlight the vibrancy and community in the inner west.

Oscar & Rich from Newtown’s own brewery explain; “the idea started to take shape during a conversation over a beer as all good ideas do. We were talking about all of the amazing things that people put into the world from the inner west…the conversation steered towards music of course and we were in agreement that the music of the Inner West isn’t celebrated as much as it deserves to be.”

With a background and underlying passion in music – that lead to beer, that lead back to music – the line up was pulled together by the team at Young Henrys, from those they’ve collaborated with, to those who have inspired them and of course just down right fans of. Top of their list are musical legends Tumbleweed who have been described as “the ultimate stoner rock band” (Ian McFarlane) and will be playing tracks from their coveted back catalogue as well as their recent LP ‘Sounds From The Other Side”.

Tumbleweed join local hip hop label Big Village hero’s True Vibenation, mighty seven piece punk-string outfit Little Bastard, scungy blues-rock’n’roll band The Snowdroppers are playing one of their very few sets of 2014 and 60’s inspired garage-punk-pop trio Bloods. The line up continues with The Delta Riggs whose second album drops this September, Steve Smyth who will release his debut record via Ivy League Records on September 5 and Richard In Your Mind who recently released their psych-pop single ‘Hammered’ plus The Upskirts, Pat Capocci, and Royal Tennyson round off the line up.

Pop up stalls from some of the many incredible food experiences that seem to be driving Sydney’s culinary fans to the inner west; Bloodwood, Porteno, Mary’s and Cornersmith will be there on the day, serving new and favoured dishes they’ve come to be known for. Finally Young Henry’s have promised to serve their exclusively local Newtowner as well as the ever-popular Cloudy Cider, plus their very new and so very exciting to announce Noble Cut Hand Crafted Gin. Yep, you read that – your favourite Newtown brewery is now serving Gin.

“Young Henrys Noble Cut Gin is small batch distilled gin made with many varied botanicals including Juniper, Oris Root, Australian native Bush Tomato, Pepperberry and Tasmanian grown Hops. The gin is both floral and dry, complex and smooth. Uniquely Australian yet reminiscent of a classic London Dry” explains the makers.

BLOODS

To say BLOODS had a tremendous 2013 would be…very accurate. Between inking a deal with Shock Records for their debut EP ‘Golden Fang’ and touring and playing shows with the likes of The Rubens, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Cloud Control and the Dum Dum Girls to name a few, the band managed to sell out shows in Sydney and Melbourne for their first even headline tour. Other highlights included the release of their debut EP to critical acclaim, making almost every delegates’ ‘Best of’ Bigsound list, receiving an FBI SMAC Award Nomination for Best Live Act, placing THREE songs on Mess and Noise’s top tracks for 2013 and making The Guardian’s top 10 Aussie Bands to watch list. Not bad for a band that started out having to teach themselves how to play their instruments.

Little Bastard

A mighty 7 piece punk-string band incorporating guitars, bass, fiddle, banjo, harmonica, mandolin, beats and a load of voices and memorable tunes that’ll suck you into their good time, old time jangle. Indiscriminately jumping on raised platforms with reckless abandon since 2012 Little Bastard have rapidly become one of Australia’s most entertaining and undeniable live acts.

Pat Capocci

Hard working and relentless determination are just two characteristics that can be attributed to Pat Capocci. Since forming nearly 10 years ago, the Pat Capocci combo has emerged as one of Australia’s respected practitioners of Rockabilly and Roots Music.

The Delta Riggs

Renowned for pumping out high energy jams & ferocious live shows, genre benders The Delta Riggs returned home from their much talked about, maiden UK & European tour in time to unveil their rattling and rapturous new single ‘The Record’s Flawed’. This intoxicating anthem is the perfect exemplar of what fans can expect from the band’s forthcoming second album – ‘Dipz Zebazios’ – due out September on Rah Rah Radio and Inertia Recordings.

Richard In Your Mind

Richard In Your Mind’s fourth album Ponderosa is the bands most melodic, dynamic and fun release yet. Created over the last two years the album is a meticulously crafted, joyous and bizarre collection of songs showcasing a plethora of strengths from this unique band. Ponderosa is out August 29 on Rice Is Nice Records.

Royal Tennyson

Put your ear to the ground in the Valley of Camden, southwestern Sydney. Hear the vestigial rumblings of humanity, the back and forth, the living and the dying. Such is the ephemeral verse of lead singer John Tennyson, supported by a musical backdrop of atmospheric distortion and smooth lullaby. Royal Tennyson will warm your heart before ripping it out of your chest.

Steve Smyth

Steve Smyth’s recently released, second Ivy League Records release is the heartfelt track ‘Written or Spoken’. It follows the rollicking single ‘Shake It’ both lifted from his debut album which the label are thrilled to announce is titled Exits and is out September 5.

The Snowdroppers

Sydney scunge-blues-rock n’roll band The Snowdroppers have been uncharacteristically quiet for most of 2014,after spending the best part of 7 years loudly bringing their 2 studio albums Too Late To Pray & Moving Out Of Eden to audiences around the country. Widely considered one of Australia’s best live acts, the band are currentlytaking some time off the road to finish writing and recording their third album, due out early 2015. Until the album’scompleted, The Snowdroppers will only be playing a handful of shows, meaning your opportunities to dance, drink,get loud and rub up against strangers is very limited! Don’t miss out!

True Vibenation

True Vibenation are a three-piece crew of MCs, beat makers and multi-instrumentalists whose sound is built equally with bass music and dancehall as it is with the heavy bottom end and lyricism of hip hop. Their recently released second album ‘ON’ is a peak into the world of True Vibenation where huge, crunchy synths meeting roaring horns, layered with rapid-fire raps and is as much suited for your headphones on the way to work as it is for blasting out of the speaker stack at your local warehouse party.

The Upskirts

Sydney four-piece The Upskirts are a hard band to pin down. With two EP’s under their belts and a new record aroundthe corner, they have dabbled in psychedelic textures and reverberated surf-rock guitar riffs, frenzied post-punk idiocyand garage pop grooves. What is left isan eclectic amalgam or rock music, and a band that is excited rather than ambivalent about the music they play. The live show proves just this; it is a swoon of highs and lows, with an unmistakable dynamic energy that has turned heads and raised eyebrows.

Young Henry’s

Young Henrys is a microbrewery in Newtown hell bent on taking good beer beyond its usual realm. Focusing both on what inspires the beer and what the beer in turn inspires, Young Henrys has found many like-minded souls and converts amongst the kitchens, band halls, bars, pubs and restaurants of the inner west. With an aim to bring their own brand of culture to beer and to take beer to culture, Young Henrys has engaged their local community like few other breweries of recent times. It takes allot of beer to make rock n roll and a lot of rock n roll to make beer.
