We heart new beers
As a Brisbane beer drinker, I’m not sure which is the better news. That tiny tyro label Four Hearts Brewing has a new beer, or that they are finding taps in notorious good beer desert Ipswich for their wares. Its 4 Degrees Pale Ale has been on at new Brisbane beer bistro Bitter Suite and met with a great reception, while Ipswich’s Yamanto Tavern has been churning through it as well. This Saturday Four Hearts’ Wade Curtis will be launching his new one, a filtered wheat beer. Details below.

The story:
The creation of Queensland brewer Wade Curtis, Four Hearts Brewing is the product of years of dedication to the cause of bringing better beers to the drinkers of Queensland.
After travelling around Europe and north America in 2001, and revelling in their exciting beer cultures, Wade returned home to find Brisbane a beer desert by comparison.
This prompted him to start experimenting with homebrewing shortly after and since then he has been obsessed with brewing.
Wade has constantly been on the lookout for opportunities to turn this love of beer into a commercial reality.
A little over a year ago he decided to set up of Four Hearts Brewing: a very small brewing concept with one beer (now two), brewed via contract. The beers however are far from your standard contract brew that is all marketing hype and little flavour.
Wade has been relentless in perfecting his recipe’s. Constantly brewing, tasting, getting feedback from friends and family, all in pursuit of an unique and great tasting ale.
By producing our beer this way four hearts brewing is able to retain total control of the product but without the large capital investment a brewery requires or the headaches of licensing.
This means we can focus on customer service and the development of more fantastic beers.
One day we hope Four Hearts Brewing will find a home in a brewery in the Scenic Rim or in a brewpub in Ipswich.
The philosophy:
Four Hearts Brewing is all about brewing beer with full flavour, no chemicals, nothing artificial and no preservatives. We are a little company producing beers for people that want something tasty and unique not bland and mass-produced.
There are too many mass market, boring beers out there that all taste the same with the only difference being the fancy advertising and the manufactured brand identity. Four Hearts Brewing rejects the notion that beer needs to be mass-produced and instead produces small quantities of high quality, flavoursome beer.
About Wade:
Wade was born and raised in Ipswich, went to uni in Rockhampton and has worked in Brisbane, Sydney, London and Canada.
He is 36 and is passionate about beer and the greater Ipswich area.
Ipswich, or more accurately peak crossing, is now his home where he lives in a rural setting with his wife of 9 years and their 3 children.
Wade is currently a marketing professional and has worked for the smiths snack food co, McDonalds, orange, virgin Australia, energex and Telstra.
