Wayward opens Marrickville bar
It’s been over seven years since Wayward Brewing opened the doors of their Camperdown brewery and Taproom, and now the brewery has expanded with the opening of a new upscale cocktail and beer venue in Marrickville, Sydney’s Inner West brewery hotspot.
The Wayward Speakeasy is launching officially at the upcoming long weekend, with cocktail deals, happy hour pricing and Vietnamese street food all on the menu!
The Speakeasy is hosting a media and industry night on Tuesday 24th January, so please join us for free flowing drinks and canapés. More details below.
ABOUT THE WAYWARD SPEAKEASY
The new Wayward Speakeasy calls to armchair those looking for a chilled spot to settle into a comfy sofa or booth and catch up with friends over a cold beer or crafted cocktail, to recount past adventures or plan new ones. It may boast 10 taps of fresh local brews behind the bar, but the Speakeasy is a big departure from the usual warehouse brewery vibe. It’s an intimate venue designed to feel like a cosy home from home and, like the Wayward Taproom, it’s packed full of reminders of wayward travels around the globe, with vintage posters, plants and travel memorabilia adorning the walls.
THE LOCAL DRINKS COLLECTIVE
Downstairs from the Speakeasy is the Local Drinks Collective bottle shop, offering a wide selection of local independent craft beer from around Australia and further afield. The shop has a carefully curated list of great Australian wines including a good range of natural wines and a selection of spirits and snacks.
FOOD AND DRINK
Wayward are known for classic beers with a twist, and their award winning core range – featuring beers like Everyday Ale and Raspberry Berliner Weisse – is widely renowned in the craft beer community and beyond. Alongside the favourites, the Speakeasy Tap List will feature limited release and small batch beer from the brewery, as well as brews from their Local Drinks Collective partners, Batch Brewing Co.
If beer isn’t your thing, the Speakeasy has you covered with their specially curated wine list and signature cocktail selection including cocktails inspired by Wayward and Batch beers like “Crime of Passion”, a delicious concoction of yuzu, vodka and passionfruit syrup that evokes Wayward’s Passionista seasonal beer. There’s even a cocktail which amps up Wayward’s hit favourite Tropical Mango Seltzer with Aperol and Peach liqueur, a combination that will give any Aperol Spritz a run for its money. Patrons can also bring up anything that takes their fancy from the bottle shop downstairs for a small corkage fee.
Located less than 100m from Marrickville Station on Illawarra Road, recently proposed as Sydney’s official Vietnamese precinct, it’s only fitting that the Wayward Speakeasy bar serves up delights from their neighbours, VN Street Foods. Customisable Bento Boxes, Bun Cha and Stir Fried Beef Vermicelli Salad are all on the menu, all served fresh from the local Vietnamese eatery and delivered straight to your table.
The Speakeasy is ideal for those looking to pull up a chair (or vintage sofa) and settle in for a good time with mates.
