The 37th IBD Asia Pacific Convention has closed in Adelaide, with Hobart named as the host city for the next event in 2025.

The event will be held between 3 – 7 March 2025, and is timed to coincide with the Tasmanian hop harvest.

IBD Asia Pacific Chair Gary Faulkner said Tasmania was perfectly placed to host the next event.

“It’s exciting, there are some really iconic brands down there from a beer perspective,” he said.

“The growth of the craft industry is just booming and the distilling sector is just going from strength to strength.

“Of course, the harvest at the same time, so that just brings it all together fabulously,” he said.

“The hop industry in Tasmania is famous worldwide so I think we’ll also find it’ll also attract a lot of people from around the world to come and check out the hop situation in Tasmania.”

Tasmania has more than 60 distilleries and upwards of 40 craft breweries alongside Cascade and Boags Breweries.

The announcement came as the Institute of Brewing and Distilling Asia Pacific held its first face-to-face convention since COVID, and recorded a strong attendance in Adelaide.

“The previous one was a virtual conference, which was pretty difficult for us to put together, especially when a big part of our organization is our networking and the camaraderie amongst all the brewers and suppliers,” Faulkner said.

“And that’s a big, big part of the IBD, so it was just fabulous to be able to do that again.”

Falkner said the training and development provided by the IBD was more important than ever, in addition to the networking.

“There is so much research and development going on, into all of the ingredients that we used, and how to make the process more efficient and sustainable.”

The 2025 conference will be held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor on the banks of the Derwent River, with trips to venues in Hobart and surrounds.
