Northern Rivers Grants Recipients Announced.

Stone & Wood’s charity arm, the inGrained Foundation, today announced $201,000 will be donated to 10 Northern Rivers not-for-profits to help address social and environmental concerns in the region.

Awarded through the inGrained Northern Rivers Grants program, the successful recipients were selected out of the largest pool of applications received in the program’s history.

The recipients of the 2023 Northern Rivers Grants are:

Bangalow Koalas: this environmental not-for-profit restores and regenerates habitats for endangered koalas. Their inGrained grant will enable the connection of the tree corridor from Lismore into Kyogle shire, with the planting of 1055 trees.

Coolamon Community: An organisation that cares for new mums in the local Aboriginal community, their grant will enable the creation of 130 “Coolamon Cribs,” a care package of crib and other essentials for new mum and baby.

Dementia Inclusive: Located in Ballina, Dementia Inclusive identified a gap in their service for young people living with early onset Dementia and their carers. Through their grant, Dementia Inclusive will provide a 12 month wellness program that aims to improve daily functioning, social connection, mental health, overall wellbeing and inclusiveness.

Fingal Head Coastcare: Since 1986, Fingal Head Coastcare have been restoring native vegetation on the Fingal Peninsula. Through their grant they will replace dilapidated benches in their nursery and install new watering systems.

Green Heroes: Green Heroes vision is to empower community to be environmental visionaries. As part of the broader Jungarra Ngarrian Conservation project, their grant will be used towards the development of an app that accurately identifies turtles, tracking migration patterns and affirm that their patterns (ie. where they nest and aggregate) is changing due to climate change.

Human Nature Adventure Therapy: Human Nature provide nature-based support for young people aged 14-20 who are experiencing significant mental health challenges and trauma. Their grant will be used to continue the expansion of their Activ8 program by enabling 103 sessions over the next 12 months.

Queer Family: LGBTIA+ support service, Queer Family, lost their clubhouse in the 2022 floods, restricting their ability to provide the community with face-to-face support. With their grant, Queer Family will be paying rent for an entire year on a new community centre, helping to bring their community back together.

Rainforest Rangers: Rainforest Rangers’ funding will contribute to establishing a permanent base – a shed – for community volunteer activities relating to rainforest restoration in the Big Scrub region of northern NSW. It will also deliver educational community rainforest restoration workshops under the Rainforest Rangers Volunteer Rainforest Restoration program.

SHIFT Project: SHIFT supports women in the Northern Rivers through the challenges they face moving from homelessness to independence, by providing stable employment. Their inGrained grant will help expand their laundering service and build a stable financial base.

Shedding Community Workshop: This Mullumbimby organisation provides an all-inclusive, safe space to gather and discover a passion for tools and has been supporting the community before and in the aftermath of the floods. Their grant will enable them to take the initiative on the road to deliver workshops to other areas in the region.
