Once more into The East
Last October Brews News’ own Prof Pilsner hosted a well-attended beer tasting at Club Kilsyth in Melbourne’s outer eastern suburbs (meaning; a very, very, very long way from traditional ‘good beer’ venues) and the results were pleasing.
As reported then, a mix of curious locals, club members and experienced beer lovers looking to support the event turned out and enjoyed a range of beers, fine food and the chance to share in something new and, well, just a little bit special.
What some may not know is that venue manager Colin Ross, along with function and beverage managers Ann- Maree Hain and Dave O’Keefe, have a plan – to become the premier good beer destination in the area. Perhaps inspired in part by the quiet success of Brad and Gypsy’s iconic Belgrave hangout, Oscar’s Alehouse, they are prepared to appeal to a small clientele to begin with and then build from there.
This month they run the third of what has been a well supported concept – Feb-BREW-ary where the taps are given over to a brewery to share their wares, talk to the brewer and to see beer matched with food at dinner. Having hosted Matilda Bay and Otway Estate in the past two Febs, now it’s the turn of the James Squire crew to bring yet more to the fold.
Hosted by Craft Beer Ambassador, Lewis Byrne (with maybe a little help from the Prof!) six Squire beers will be artfully matched to six courses, with Q & A, giveaways and plenty of good beery company.
Feb-BREW-ary will take place on Wednesday February 22nd and tickets are $55 for Club Kilsyth and Club Ringwood members and $60 for non members.
Prof has two tickets to give away to lucky Australian Brews News readers who send us an email to win_stuff@dev.brewsnews.com.au with beerouteast in the subject line. So, if you live out that way and are tired of bemoaning the dearth of venues doing the right thing, or if you’d like to support this initiative, get on board and get yourself out there.
