Prost! For the first time in the history of the event, The Only Oktoberfest Brisbane will serve locally brewed Bier after a partnership with the Burleigh Brewing Company was announced on International Bier Day.
In a win for local production, independent, award-winning Queensland craft brewery Burleigh Brewing will be the first Australian company to exclusively brew and supply all the Bier for the Festival which is the largest of its kind in Australia.
Burleigh Brewing has been supplying Bier to the event since 2012 but this will be the first time they brew all the Bier for the Festival including Helles, Weissbier and Dunkel, three traditional German Biers.
“There’s no better time to announce our partnership with Burleigh Brewing than on International Bier Day,” said Festival Director Boris Zoulek. “Like every other live event in Australia, we’ve had to make changes to how we do things thanks to the challenges of the past few years. Finding local suppliers and partners has been a real silver lining to what has been a really difficult time for our industry,” he said.
The partnership with Burleigh Brewing was initially announced in 2021 but due to a (OVID-induced hiatus, Oktoberfesters never got a chance to sample all three of Burleigh’s brews which will be crafted according to strict the Bavarian Bier Purity Law. The law, known in Germany as Reinheitsgebot, stipulates that only four ingredients can be used: water, malt, hops and yeast (you have to love a country that has laws about how Bier is brewed!).
“The Germans are masters of brewing and are renowned for their exacting traditional methods that produce some of the finest Biers in the world. We are honoured to be working with Oktoberfest Brisbane to exclusively supply traditional Bier containing all-German ingredients brewed on the Gold Coast,” said Burleigh Brewing Co-Founder and Brewmaster, Brennan Fielding.
“Serving Bier brewed using traditional German methods has always been incredibly important to us,” said Boris. “It’s part of our commitment to delivering authentic cultural experiences. We are proud to be partnering with Burleigh Brewing Co,” said Boris.
Oktoberfest Brisbane, known as the most authentic and the only one of its scale in Australia, was named one of the top 10 Oktoberfest celebrations outside of Germany by National Geographic. The Festival will take place across six huge days over two weekends, on 7-9 & 14-16 Oktober. More than 35,000 culture-seeking enthusiasts will descend on the Brisbane Showgrounds, bringing together stein-raisers from across the country.
