“The Courty and Young Henrys hosting a street party in Newtown – you don’t get more Inner West than that. I can’t wait to crack a tinny with the crowd to celebrate” – Darcy Byrne, Mayor of Inner West Council.
Longtime pals Mary’s will be there, a name that has cemented itself in Newtown’s culinary history, tastefully slinging their iconic burgers. Thirsts will be quenched thanks to Young Henrys and The Courty with multiple pop-up bars, ensuring drinks are flowing, alongside the tunes, as partygoers fuel up for a killer afternoon of good times and even greater mates.
“To continue our long-standing tradition of celebrating the birth of the old faithful Newtowner as well as Newtown and all the weird & wonderful she has to offer, the Courty and Young Henrys are returning to take over Eliza St on Saturday the 2nd of December. Expect ice cold tinnies, tasty tacos and live music, so ensure to wear your dancing shoes” – Anne Kessler, General Manager The Courty.
“Young Henrys and our mates at the Courthouse Hotel have been celebrating Newtown (the suburb) and Newtowner (the beer)’s birthdays together for 11 years now. It all started with the creation of Newtowner as a small batch beer to mark the 150th birthday of Newtown, grew to multiple attempts at breaking the Tinnie Crack World Record (with a mechanical tinnie bucking folks to boot) and has now outgrown the hallowed grounds of the Courty, spilling out into Eliza St in December for the 2nd Inaugural Newtown Street Party!!!” says Oscar Mcmahon, Young Henrys Co-Founder
He continues to say, “Newtown is a weird, wonderful and welcoming place and this free event invites all to come on down to shake a leg, high five your friends and make a few more to the sounds, sights and smells of what this great suburb has to offer. Party on people, party on!”
For more than a decade, Young Henrys has continued to foster its friendship with The Courty. From the brewery’s humble beginnings, The Courty supported the newcomers on the block, pouring the very first flagship brew, the Newtowner, through the pub’s veins for the locals to enjoy. Since then, Young Henrys and The Courty have united every year to honour this signature beer and Newtown’s 150+ year history with the annual Tinnie Crack event. Last year was one for the history books, celebrating Young Henrys’ 10th birthday surrounded by those who supported them along the way, the annual Tinnie Crack became more than a day party, it gave birth to the Newtown Street Party. This year marks the second of many Street Parties to come, as Young Henrys and The Courty continue to serve the people and the local community that have become an integral part of their DNA.
If this sounds like your type of afternoon, don’t forget to round up your mates and join Young Henrys for a summer event in the heart of their community this December. This is a free entry-via-donation event with entry proceeds going to Newtown Neighbourhood Centre!
