New from The Mash Collective: Aureus Chrysalis

Mash Collective AureusThe Mash Collective is an opportunity for people from all walks of life to come together, share their personal obsessions and create a brew from a common ground, which is the love of beer.

Aureus Chrysalis is the second beer to be released by The Mash Collective. The name was drawn from the amazing piece of art produced by tattoo artist Trevor Bennett. Aureus (awr-ee-uhs) is Latin for gold, but also for hop, and the Chrysalis (kris-ə-lis) refers to the cocoon that gives birth to a beautiful creature.

Inspired by the bold ales of Belgium and Scotland, the collective fashioned their ideas into a luscious beer that has glimpses of complexity below the surface.

Think the faint whiff of a smoky highland fireplace across a rich Flemish fruit cake, iced with a spicy resinous marzipan.

Just proves that amazing things happen when a chef, a tattoo artist, a furniture maker, an engineer / home brewer, and a musician get together over a beer.

Mash Collective brewers

Trevor Bennett is widely regarded as one of the best tattoo artists in Australia. Demand for his work can mean having to wait nearly two years for a booking in his private studio west of Sydney. Having recently launched his own clothing company as well, we’re stoked Trevor found sometime to help us create this brew.

Richard Grant is an accomplished home brewer who won a comp we ran last year down in Melbourne. His prize was getting to come and get involved in this brew and he’s added so much to the process.

Chef, author and TV presenter are just a few of the hats Ben O’Donohue wears around Brisbane. Having worked with the likes of Jamie Oliver over in the UK for many years, Ben transferred his experience in the kitchen out to the brewery.

Greg Hatton is a furniture maker and landscaper from country Victoria. He sees form and beauty in natural and recycled materials that most people would throw out or simply pass by. His input and ideas represented a fresh take on building a beer.

Ash Grunwald has been making albums for 10 years, creating the sort of blues and roots that forces people to get up and shake their behind. A big fan of Belgian brews (having toured there seven times) he provided some great input and the colour of his guitar provided inspiration as well.
