New beer deliver service launches
Comment
As the craft beer market grows, the industry is throwing up more and more entrepreneurs hoping to build a business servicing the demand or the culture around it. Brews News currently receives one of two pleas a week to promote a new beer-related Kickstarter projects, on which we will write more soon.
However, one idea to service the market that is constantly thrown up and tried is the beer delivery service. Several have come and gone over the last decade, most notably The BeerMasons.
It’s an idea that seems a winner. People love beer. Let’s send them a selection. However, unlike the way in which wine has traditionally been viewed, beer is a product that price and convenience matter. With the cost associated with managing the packaging and delivery of the beer of the month pack, it is difficult to create enough value in the pack to justify the premium paid for the service. It was easier to justify this when specialty bottleshops were scarce and the novelty of the beers involved added value, but that is much harder as good beer is increasingly more easily available on demand.
Beer Masons sought to add value with excellent tasting notes, recipes, beer education and eventually specialty importing of rare beers. Though all of this is as added cost and their packs were often pointed to as being too expensive for what they offered.
But, for all that, a new service has just been announced. It will be interesting to see whether Beer Days Beer Boxes are able to overcome the issues of price and convenience and create a compelling offer. [MK]

About Beer Days
At Beer Days, we love craft beer. And we want everyone to know all about it!
Beer Days was started in 2011 by two young Aussie guys wanting to combine their three favourite things; good food, good mates and great beers. They began hosting boutique beer events for small groups and in 2013 they expanded.
Since then, they have held dozens of events at some of Sydney’s best restaurants and in 2013 have launched their own Craft Beer Boxes.
Their goal is to take craft beer to the masses. If more people drink craft beer, then more brewers will make the stuff – great stuff – and since they don’t have any brewing skills, they figured they’d take this approach. It’s also means they can support the little guys doing great things with craft beer. And that should make us all feel pretty good.
