As part of a revamp of the vocational education program for the industry, a newly revised Certificate III in Food Processing (Brewing) has been released.

It is part of the latest version of the Food and Beverage Pharmaceutical Training Package, launched by Training.gov.au, the national register of vocational education and training in Australia.

The new package was developed by Skills Impact, a not-for-profit, industry-owned organisation that works across Australia to benchmark learning and skills standards for industry, and brewing is one of the 12 specialisations within the qualification.

The revised qualification now has five core units and 12 electives, with brewing specific units including:

• Operate and monitor a wort production process
• Prepare and monitor beer yeast propagation processes
• Operate and monitor a brewery fermentation process
• Operate and monitor a beer filtration process
• Operate and monitor a beer maturation process
• Prepare malted grain
• Blend and dispatch malt
• Perform basic tests

Training providers can now apply to deliver the qualification to meet the needs of the brewing industry.

The news comes after a number of education and state TAFE organisations invested in brewing training, including Queensland which launched its TAFE Brewing courses last year, as did Victoria, joining existing courses in NSW and South Australia.
