Dan and Deborah Carey of New Glarus Brewing

The founders of one of America’s oldest and most successful craft breweries, New Glarus Brewing Company of Wisconsin, will headline the speaker lineup for the upcoming IBD Asia Pacific Convention in Wellington.

New Glarus was founded by Deborah Carey in 1993, with her husband Daniel Carey as brewmaster.

“That year we brewed 233 hl. In 2017 we sold 265,000 hl, all within our home State of Wisconsin, making us the 16th largest craft brewery in the United States,” Deborah Carey says.

Deborah and Daniel will provide the keynote on the topic of ‘Surviving the Craft Beer Storm’ at this month’s convention, running between Monday March 19 and Friday March 23 at the TSB Bank Arena and Convention Centre.

Other international speakers include Dr Charlie Bamforth, Distinguished Professor of Malting and Brewing Sciences at the University of California, Davis and Honorary Professor in the School of Biosciences at the University of Nottingham.

Also presenting is Graham Stewart, Emeritus Professor in Brewing and Distilling at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland, and Tim O’Rourke, a Master Brewer with over 35 years’ experience.

Topics of education and discussion over the course of the five day event include dry hopping for craft brewers, microbiology on a budget, implementing a centrifuge, wood and beer, packaging quality, and many many more.
