Having been on hiatus last year, the GABS Beer, Cider and Food Festival is raring and ready to go, with guaranteed weird, wonderful and one-of-a-kind beer and cider flavours to excite the senses like never before!
The Festival sees the first time release of over one hundred brand new craft beer and cider creations served through 360 taps across three massive container bars!
Extra downtime throughout 2020 seems to have sparked a creative flame amongst brewers and cider makers across Australia and New Zealand, who are keener than ever to showcase their unique creations and share them face to face with fellow craft beer and cider enthusiasts.
This year’s inspiration pushes all brewing boundaries. Here is a sneak peak at just 10 of the exclusive GABS releases with some of the quirkiest sensations on offer at the festival:
1.Snap, Crackle & Hop – Capital Brewing Co (ACT)
This beer has marshmallows, rice bubbles, vanilla and lactose to deliver an awesome sweetness that mimics the favourite snack of all of our childhoods! When you had an LCM bar packed in your lunch, you were guaranteed to be the popular kid on the playground.
2.Smashed Avo – Public Brewing Co (VIC)
Forget the meat pie, the smashed avo is the new Australian classic. With blends of Himalayan sea salt, black pepper and lemon it will take you right back to your favourite breaky legend with our new smashed avo gose!
3.Eiffel 6.5 – Batch Brewing Company (NSW)
Blue in colour, sour, hoppy, loaded with fruits and other adjuncts, served on Nitrogen.
Affectionately named in honour of the iconic 90’s dance group and inspired by all things blue.
4.Marrickville Lamb Souvlaki – Willie The Boatman (NSW)
This will send you sailing around the glorious Greek islands! Mediterranean herbs, lemon, salt and locally sourced lamb broth come together to smite your tastebuds down like lightning bolts from Zeus himself!
5.Chai.P.A – Malt Shovel Brewers (NSW)
Chai Latte meets IPA with a mix of Chai Spices, Vanilla Beans, Lotus hops and some lactose for a creamy mouthful. It’s the perfect balance of spices, milk, and hops that make it a great afternoon pick-up
6.Pink Passion – Cheeky Tiki Cider (QLD)
A delicious hybrid cider made from co-fermenting fresh Queensland apple juice with Shiraz grapes and passion fruit juice, producing a delicious and pink-tinged cider (of sorts).
7.Burleigh Fifteen – Burleigh Brewing Co (QLD)
In celebration of 15 years of Burleigh Brewing, we will brew an inspired 15th Century Dusseldorf house beer unique for GABS titled Burleigh Fifteen. This is exclusive to the GABS festival that cannot be found anywhere else.
8.Brunch Date – Ballistic Beer Co. (QLD)
Brunch Date is a mimosa inspired sour ale that blurs the boundaries between sparkling wine and sour beer. Fermented with white grape must and oranges, expect a bright, zippy sour beer that highlights the classic citrus and vinous characteristic of the mimosa.
9.Sourade Blue Blast Berry Gose – Wayward Brewing Co (QLD)
Inspired by the popular sports drinks, Sourade Blue Blast Berry Gose is a refreshingly tart, electric-blue sour ale, which is packed with electrolytes and big berry flavours. When ordinary beer is not enough, BlueBerry Blast it!
10.Wasabi Sumo – Stockade Brew Co (NSW)
This badass will wrestle you out of the ring and hit you with hops from all angles. With sweet stonefruit up front and a smooth, piney resin following hot on its heels, it finishes you off with hot burning wasabi and ginger – you’re sure to remember this well after the match is over.
Get ready for your current perception of craft beer and cider to be blown out of the water with the mixing of ingredients you wouldn’t have dared possible – prepare yourself for the craziest flavours yet.
While it’s all about craft beer, there is something for everyone with great cider, wines, gins and zero alcohol options on offer and some of the best street food in town.
