Dave Mullins - Tiny Mountain
On the podcast this week, we head to Tropical North Queensland and visit Lion’s newest brewery, Tiny Mountain and catch up with head brewer Dave Mullins.
As with many craft brewers, Mullins began his journey as a teenage homebrewer a hobby he continued as he worked in his first career as a design draughtsman before taking a job at the pioneering Brisbane brewery Oxford Brewing Co where he worked for a year until its closure in the mid 2000’s.
After a further stint in his former profession, the call of brewing became too strong and he applied for a position on the bottling line at Brisbane’s XXXX brewery. Since starting at Lion he has worked his way up through the business to be Production Brewer at Malt Shovel Brewery before his appointment to head up Tiny Mountain.
It’s great chat about forging a career in brewing, and the challenges of opening a brewery even as part of a larger business. And one great takeaway is the idea that everything that you do in your career is an experience that is a tool in your toolbox.
