Bucket Boys Bar is open in Marrickville

Sydney-based retailers, importers, distributors and brewers Bucket Boys have added a bar to their operation.

The 50-capacity Bucket Boys Bar is located above its Marrickville shop and was always part the company’s business plan, co-founder Jonathan Hepner told Brews News.

“With the bottleshop you can only offer so much in terms of customer experience, you don’t ever get to sit down and have a drink with people, so we wanted to have that opportunity for people to come, sit down and actually try things,” he said.

The bar has ten taps devoted to independent beer and all the stock ranged downstairs can be consumed in the bar with the addition of a corkage fee, ensuring Bucket Boys Bar has one of the country’s biggest beer lists.

“We sell it downstairs and put a sticker on it, then you bring it upstairs and hand it to the bartender and they open for you,” Hepner said.

He said many of the bottles ranged by Bucket Boys are best suited to being shared among a few people.

“If you open it up and there’s a bit of atmosphere and sharing it really does a much better job of serving its purpose of being something exciting,” he said.

“It’s a pretty unique experience having the bar tie in with the bottleshop and make them work together.”

Beers from downstairs will be sold corkage free on Wednesdays, which Hepner said will likely be the best value craft beer available in a bar anywhere.

He said the bar’s emphasis will be on showcasing a diverse range of beer styles and breweries on tap, rather than exclusively its own beers and those it distributes on behalf of other breweries.

“The whole idea of craft is choice, so there’s always going to be something low alcohol, something easy drinking, a couple of IPAs, something sour, something really big and alcoholic and something dark,” he said.

Bucket Boys Bar offers cheese and charcuterie from local businesses The Stinking Bishops and Two Providores, with bread from Bread and Butter Project. Menus will soon be available for patrons to order more substantial meals from local restaurants.
