BESTMALZ’s BEST Brew Challenge is Back!

Each year, German maltsters, BESTMALZ, host their BEST Brew Challenge, a competition where brewers from all around the globe can brew a beer simultaneously to go in the running for some awesome industry prizes.

This year, BESTMALZ is working with their Australian and New Zealand distributors, Cryer Malt, to spread the word and invite Australian and New Zealand brewers to get involved in this event! The simultaneous brew will take place on the 25th March 2021, with brewers from all around the world taking part, using similar grain bills but brewing in different countries and time zones.*

The Recipe

To take part, all you need to do is brew a light wheat beer using at least 20% BEST Wheat Malt.** BEST Wheat malt is available from your mates at Cryer Malt.

BESTMALZ has outlined that the beer must have a total of at least 50% wheat malt and an alcohol content of <3.5% (other ingredients are completely in your hands)!

Term and Conditions

To take part in the challenge you must register on the Best Brew Challenge website by 24 March 2021 (German time). Registration details include the name of your brewery, brew master, a description of your team and your brewery with pictures along with a video, if available.

Brewers who would like to enter their beer in the challenge must send the completed Documentation Sheet and at least three litres of their beer to BESTMALZ HQ in Heidelberg, Germany by 10th May 2021.

Prizes

The lucky winner will have the option to either visit the BESTMALZ Heidelberg HQ and meet with the BestBrewChallenge team members in 2021 OR win tickets to the drinktec 2022 trade fair in Munich (both prizes are for max. 2 persons, including travel & accommodation expenses)***.

First and second place will also come home with a professional beer analysis. All participants will receive a t-shirt & professional recipe evaluation.

*Brew time is Thursday March 25 at 14:00 CET which is Friday March 26 at 03:00 NZDT & 01:00 AEDT.

**BESTMALZ registration page and documentation specifies using BESTMALZ Heidelberg Wheat Malt. However, BESTMALZ has given Cryer Malt customers special permission to use 20% BESTMALZ Best Wheat Malt in their grain bill.

***Please note that due to the global COVID-19 situation, BESTMALZ has confirmed that the first prize can be transferred to future years if it is not safe for Australian and New Zealand citizens to travel internationally in 2021 or 2022.
