He’s been called everything from iconic, ground-breaking, forward thinking and innovative to socially philanthropic and Rock Star Brewer but now we can call him a genuine top bloke as he brings his own beers to our shores (officially) for the first time. He is Greg Koch, founder and spiritual head of San Diego’s Stone Brewing and a man who has never let the stewardship of his beers compromise the principles upon which they were brewed. He also happens to be a good friend of us here at Brews News having offered his views on beer and brewing in an exclusive interview with Matt Kirkegaard a few years back.

As part of his trip Down Under Greg will tap his beers at the Local Taphouse in St Kilda in a Stone SpecTAPular on Saturday April 5th, from 12pm – 1am. All 20 taps will be taken over by Stone Brewing Co – the first time ever they will be tapped in OZ. Greg and his beers are here due to the hard work and effort or the crew at Experience IT (also good friends of Brew News).

There will aslo be live entertainment in the evening and a rare opportunity to meet the man behind the beers. A gold coin donation, payable at the door will go towards Out Doors Inc which is a Melbourne based charity providing outdoor adventure and respite programs for young people 16+ living with mental illness.

In addition, a special Ale Stars Q & A session with Greg will take place between 5 and 6pm during the Stone SpecTAPular. Lucky punters will taste 3 brews including one not on the tap list during an intimate chat session with the legend himself. Tickets are limited but available to the public for just $25 with Taphouse Ale Star members receiving a $5 discount.

For those on the ‘other’ (North) side of the river, you can sample some Stone at The Alehouse Project with their twelve taps pouring 14 of Greg’s best from 7.30 and the man himself in attendance from about the same time. Depending on the tram and all. Plus, he’ll need to get a Myki and God knows that’s harder than selling Arrogant Bastard to a Corona drinker. Get in early and have a few before he gets there.
