Valley Hops Brewing: New indie haunt for locals brewing on Cloudland rooftop

– Cloudland team launches glam rooftop brewhouse and bar –

The team behind Fortitude Valley institution Cloudland has today announced it will open an independent brewhouse and bar on its Ann Street rooftop. Celebrating the characters of its distinctive Fortitude Valley backdrop, Valley Hops Brewing is set to brew and pour top-quality beers in a setting that’s bathed in quintessential Queensland sunshine, overlooking this iconic neighbourhood.

For a brewery that unreservedly pays tribute to its neighbourhood and puts the people of the Valley at the core of its ethos, it makes perfect sense that Valley-trained brewer and beer-obsessive Josh Warren (formerly Green Beacon) will be at the helm of the brand new brewhouse as Head Brewer.

“Valley Hops will be home to Fortitude Valley’s very own beer, something the locals can drink and be proud to call their own. The Valley’s awesome for so many reasons and I’m excited to be part of that community,” says Warren. “The people-watching in the Valley is unreal. You see every kind of person from every kind of demographic. It’s a great cultural experience,” he adds.

Warren is eager to celebrate the Valley’s people with his core range of six, signature, house-brewed beers that will represent the locality’s eccentric characters – including a crisp, light-bodied lager, a tropical ale, a fruity sour, a pale ale, an IPA and a Hazy IPA. Each unique brew will be named after people, places and moments in time in the Valley.

It will come as no surprise to patrons that the team behind many of the Valley’s favourite entertainment venues, the Katarzyna Group, has grand plans for the fit-out. In a first-of-its-kind for Brisbane’s brewing scene, the rooftop will be transformed into a glam brewpub, where the beer will be made in a two vessel 15BBL brewhouse. Guests will step out of an elevator, into the bar area featuring a beautiful metalwork arbour with creeping vines, large fire pit with built-in benches and a mix of wooden picnic style, booth and high bar seating — made for enjoying those Valley views. The venue’s design features stone, brick and metallic accents, in bold contrast to the verdant plant life. To complete the look, a bespoke leadlight will span the entire length of the bar in a patchwork of coloured glass made by hand.

Alongside its signature brews, Valley Hops Brewing will serve up a tasty menu, featuring authentic flavours from the charcoal grill and wood fired pizza oven. And the best bit —everything is bite-sized and designed to be eaten without a knife and fork.

Paul Janssen, General Manager of Valley Hops Brewing, says, “Our aim is to make beer that locals love to drink. We created Valley Hops Brewing to celebrate the wonderful playground and entertainment precinct that is the Valley. We think it deserves its own beer. Through our beers, we’ll share stories of the people, places and times that have shaped the Valley throughout its fascinating history. We want to make the Valley proud to have its own beer –one that can be enjoyed in an impressive setting. And yet, we want beer lovers to be able to bring their mates, partners and family members who aren’t into craft beer (yet!), which is why we will also offer premium wines, delicious food and a great experience for all.”
