Proudly independent Sydney-based brewery and distillery, Young Henrys are saying a big Happy 45th Birthday to their long-time pals, community radio heroes 4ZZZ with an extra special, limited edition H4ZZZY West Coast IPA.

Available from November 30th in kegs and limited long necks in select South East Queensland bottle shops and venues only, with 50% of proceeds going back to the station.

As Australia’s longest running community FM Broadcaster, 4ZZZ’s mission is to “connect + amplify”the voices of their local community. Since their first transmission on December 8th, 1975 they have beendoing exactly that loudly and proudly.

Echoing the same ethos, Young Henrys is a brewery born from a simple idea: brew beer their local community would enjoy and be proud to call their own. As the Newtown locals grew, so did their community, far beyond the geographical. Working with like-minded folk across the country, including those from Brisbane who have led the voices of authority on music, art, culture and community.

4ZZZ Station Manager, Grace Pashley and Sponsorship & Community Engagement, Dominique Furphy note the significance of this special beer: “What an honour to collaborate with fellow music-loving, community-minded mates Young Henrys on this celebratory birthday brew! The H4ZZZY West Coast IPA is perfect to enjoy on balmy QLD evenings with friends and your favourite 4ZZZ shows.”

This collaboration with 4ZZZ is the perfect homage to a station that has remained proudly independent and livesince the start. The two have been long supporters of each other, with Young Henrys supporting multiple 4ZZZ live gigs, festivals and their infamous Studio 3.

The limited H4ZZZY West Coast IPA will be one of the many highlights of the station’s birthday week. From December 4th, 4ZZZ will welcome presenters both past and present on-air to take their listeners on a journey through the voices, sounds and subcultures that helped shape the last 4.5 decades.

Plus, you better believe they’ll be painting the town Zed with a stack of parties from Brissy to Ipswich. No matter where you are, people can celebrate in Zed-loving venues with the Young Henrys H4ZZZY on tap flowing all night.

Closing out the celebrations, 4ZZZ and Young Henrys will be hosting an alumni party at Greenslopes Bowling Club on Saturday, 12 December. The event will be invite-only for those who have powered the station from the inside with snacks, lawn bowls, the H4ZZZY beer and of course a birthday cake to top it all off.

On the special collaboration and his own personal experience with the station, Young Henrys Co-Founder Oscar McMahon states: “When I was a youngster I played in a band and we headed up to play our first shows in Brisbane at a bar in the Valley. We weren’t expecting much of it but based upon an EP sent to 4ZZZ we were invited in to chat about the show and play a song on air. We ended up having some beers with the 4ZZZ crew afterwards and low and behold, people heard the radio spot and actually turned up to see an unknown Sydney band.”

That’s one tiny little positive experience, zoom out from that and think about the impact that this radio station has had on the music scene of Brisbane and it’s surrounds; giving hundreds of Australian acts that platform to showcase every single week for 45 years. That is an incredible, undeniable effectuation upon Australian music and culture so profound that we shouldn’t just raise a glass to them, we should make them their own bloody beer. LONG LIVE COMMUNITY RADIO, LONG LIVE 4ZZZ”.

Following on from Oscar’s sentiments, Grace Pashley and Dominique Furphy toast “Raise a glass to the legacy & future of Brisbane’s iconic community radio station 4ZZZ – independent & live since 1975. Cheers!”

Young Henrys H4ZZZY West Coast IPA will be available from November 30 at select bottle shops and venues across South East Queensland.
