The Critics' Choice: Australia's Best Beers
It’s not a Australian Brews News publication but regular contributor and co-host of Radio Brews News, Pete Mitcham, is the editor-in-chief and Matt Kirkegaard is a contributor, so you would expect us to say nice things about the upcoming Critics’ Choice: Australia’s Best Beers. Still, is a very fine piece of beerphernalia. With the voting being done by a panel of beer writers, judges, brewers and retailers, the Critics’ Choice is the perfect companion list to the people’s choice beers represented by the Local Taphouses Hottest 100. Together they are the ultimate list of what’s hot in the world of Australian beer!
Watch out for the beer countdowns at a good beer bar bear you, with the #1 being announced on March 30.

The Critics’ Choice: Australia’s Best Beers
Late in 2010 three blokes got together over a beer and decided to do the impossible.
They set out to gather together a selection of Australia’s best and brightest beer personalities – brewers and beer writers, bottle shop and venue operators – and asked them to do what no one had even attempted to do before; nominate their favourite beers and put them in order from 1 to 100 so that they may create a book from the list. Fortunately, two of those blokes were publishers. That book was The Critics Choice: Australia’s Best Beers.
Incorporating tasting notes from the brewers themselves and additional comments on each beer by some of the country’s leading beer writers, The Critics Choice took beer from the pub and the BBQ andbrought it to the dinner table and the Board Room, demystifying confusing terminologies and explaining styles, types and flavours.
For the first time the average drinker had a book that introduced a range of Australian beers, chosen by those best placed to recommend them and presented in a way that welcomed the newcomer to the world of beer. In addition, restaurants, cafes and bars now had a handy guidebook for new staff and for those customers ready to take the next step in their beer education.
The Critics Choice will again showcase the best that Australian brewers have to offer an ever increasing and appreciative audience. The Critics Choice is list of beers brewed in Australia and available during 2011, ranked by the country’s foremost appreciators of our unofficial national beverage. With style guides and tasting notes and food pairing suggestions, The Critics Choice will make the perfect handbook for anyone who enjoys a beer.
